One sheet previously mounted on fabric. This artwork is a famous 1932 vintage London Underground advertising poster titled "Opening of the Piccadilly Line Extension". Designed by the British illustrator and designer Cecil Walter Bacon (C.W. Bacon), it was commissioned by the Underground Electric Railways Company of London to celebrate the opening of the northern extension of the Piccadilly line from Finsbury Park to Arnos Grove on September 19, 1932.Design Details The Concept: The poster cleverly shows a stylized pathway or "carpet" of the new railway line being rolled out into the suburbs of North London by two geometric blue figures.The 5 New Stations: The map showcases the five new stations that opened simultaneously on that day:Manor House Turnpike Lane Wood Green Bounds Green Arnos Grove The Aesthetics: The artwork is highly regarded as a prime example of 1930s commercial Art Deco/Modernist graphic design.
