Gleneagles - Before (Poster) One sheet authentic "Fore! Gleneagles" vintage travel poster. Created around 1910 for the Caledonian Railway Company, it features bold, classic artwork designed by the famous illustrator Harry Rowntree.Poster Details & Context The Artwork: The illustration depicts a massive eagle taking flight over the rugged peaks of the Scottish Highlands. It plays directly on the name of the destination, Gleneagles.The Slogan: The text reads "Fore! Gleneagles – The Golf Course the Great in Scotland". This was part of a major tourism campaign to promote rail travel to Scotland's newly developing premium golf courses. Historical Significance: Because the poster explicitly names the Caledonian Railway, it dates to the era before the British railway companies were grouped into the London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) in 1923.
