The poster was created for the Japanese National Railways (??????). It advertises the 7th National Sports Festival Skiing Competition, which took place in Otaru City in Hokkaido in 1952.
The poster was designed by Kenichi Kuriyagawa, a self-taught graphic designer known for his tourism posters for Hokkaido and the Sapporo Snow Festival. His work was featured in a Japanese Graphic Design Exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1956. |
