Dante - Mounted (Poster) 3 sheet magic poster vintage advertisement for the famous magician Dante (Harry August Jansen, 1883-1955) and his "Mystery Revue". It highlights the "World's Greatest Wonder Spectacle" featuring "50 Thrills, Laughs, Mysteries, Sensations" and his iconic catchphrase "Sim Sala Bim". Dante the Magician Real Name and Origin: Born Harry August Jansen in Denmark, he emigrated to the U.S. as a child. Career: He began his magic career as an illusion builder before becoming a performer known as "The Great Jansen". Stage Name: Howard Thurston, a leading magician of the era, hired Jansen in 1922 and gave him the stage name "Dante". Show: Dante toured the world with his elaborate stage show, which featured grand illusions like "Sawing a Woman in Half" and "The Un-Sevilled Barber". Trademark: His trademark phrase was "Sim Sala Bim," a nonsense phrase from an old Danish children's song, which he uttered during his performances. Legacy: Dante was one of the last great performers of the Golden Age of magic and appeared in several films, notably the Laurel and Hardy comedy A-Haunting We Will Go (1942).
