The Golden Arrow

The Golden Arrow - After 2 (Poster) Posterteam One Sheet vintage travel poster advertising "The Golden Arrow" all-Pullman train service between London, Calais, and Paris. The service was a luxurious "boat-train" experience where passengers took a train to the coast, a dedicated ferry across the English Channel, and another train to their final destination. The Golden Arrow Service Service Launched: The French Flèche d'Or service launched in 1926, and the integrated "Golden Arrow" service was fully introduced by the British Southern Railway in May 1929. Route: The journey involved a train from London Victoria to Dover, a ferry crossing to Calais, and a connecting French train to Paris Gare du Nord. Luxury Travel: It was a first-class-only service at its launch, utilizing luxurious Pullman cars known for their fine dining and elegant interiors. A dedicated first-class ferry, the TSS Canterbury, was built to connect the two train segments. Poster Details: The poster in the image was designed by artist William Spencer Bagdatopoulos (1888-1965) around 1926 and printed using the Sungravure process. Service End: The Golden Arrow service was suspended during World War II and, due to the rise of air travel, the last full service ran on September 30, 1972.
