The Message to Headquarters

The Message to Headquarters US 6 Sheet, silent stone litho, 1915. Mounted on thin gauze-like fabric, with each corner folded over with metal grommets. Print is flaking and missing pieces throughout. There is significant staining, paper loss and surface dirt.
Poster was cut vertically into two equal sections. Each section was washed and a facing on hollytex using gelatin was performed. The sections were mounted face down on melamine board with original backing intact and allowed to partially cure for 30 minutes. While still moist, the backing was removed and the poster was treated with gelatin from the verso and allowed to cure overnight. Poster sections were removed from the boards with hollytex facing intact. Poster was re-washed and linen backed and allowed to cure overnight, facing still attached. Facing was removed and excess gelatin was removed with protease enzyme.
