PENCIL AND PASTEL ON PAPER, MOUNTED TO BOARD |
Signature was determined to be water soluble so it was "fixed" with wax-based pencil. Art was soaked in orvus and water solution, face down for 30 minutes and board was peeled away in layers. Art was soaked in mild orvus solution and warm water and treated with sodium hypochloride solution then paper backed. Paper appeared splotchy so art was treated to second bath, submerged in slightly warm water tinctured with Orvus and Chloramine-T. Allowed to soak for approx. 1 hour, then removed, rinsed and re-sized with warm gelatin, front and back. After curing overnight, art was then re-lined with hand made Japanese paper (Okawara). Minor restoration has been performed in the area of the large tear using water color and colored pencil. |
