TAPE WAS REMOVED MECHANICALLY USING HOT SPATULA AND MICRO-SKIVING KNIFE, OBJECT WAS MARINATED FACE-DOWN IN COLD WATER BETWEEN MYLAR SHEETS FOR 30 MINUTES, OLD DEFECTIVE SUBSTRATE WAS REMOVED MANUALLY BY CAREFUL PEELING. OBJECT WAS PLACED IN A WARM BATH OF WATER AND ORVUS, WATER WAS CHANGED 4 TIMES, AND OBJECT WAS THEN THOROUGHLY RINSED UNDER COLD WATER ON SLANTED TABLE. A NEW SUBSTRATE WAS CREATED USING 3 LAYERS OF 120 GRAM JAPANESE MASA AND ONE LAYER OF HANDMADE OKAWARA FOR THE BACKING. OBJECT WAS ADHERED TO NEW BACKING (WHILE BACKING WAS STILL WET) USING ZEN-SHOFU AND PLACED IN A VACUUM-HEAT PRESS AT 120 DEGREES F. FOR 15 MINUTES TO FLASH CURE ALL LAYERS OF ADHESIVE. MINOR RESTORATIVE TOUCH UP WAS PERFORMED LOCALLY USING WATER SOLUBLE PIGMENT. |
PROJECT COMPLETED ON 02/23/2011. FUTURE REVERSAL OF ALL CONSERVATORIAL AND RESTORATIVE PROCEDURES CAN EASILY BE ACHIEVED BY SOAKING OBJECT IN WATER, RINSING OFF PIGMENT AND PEELING AWAY SUBSTRATE. |
