Halsingborg

Halsingborg - Mounted (Poster) One sheet original Swedish travel poster from 1947 promoting the coastal city of Hälsingborg (Helsingborg), Sweden.Key Details About the ArtworkThe Artist: It was designed by Gunnar Christenson (1895–1997). The piece won first prize in an official poster competition organized by the city. The Perspective: Christenson briefly taught drawing at a school situated just to the right of the central tower. The classroom was on the top floor to maximize natural light, giving him this exact high-vantage perspective overlooking the landscape towards the coast. The Landmarks: The dominant red-brick structure is Kärnan (The Core), a medieval fortress tower built in the 1310s. It is the sole remaining structure of a massive Danish castle that controlled strategic entry into the Øresund strait. In the background, the distinctive green spire of Mariakyrkan (St. Mary's Church) is visible.
