Peace

Peace - Before (Poster) This is an iconic psychedelic-era concert poster designed by Stanley Mouse and Alton Kelley for a "Concert for Peace" held on October 8, 1966, at the Mt. Tamalpais Outdoor Theater in Marin County, California. Key Details & History The Lineup: The event featured Joan Baez, her sister Mimi Fariña, The Grateful Dead, and Quicksilver Messenger Service. However, historical records indicate that Baez and Fariña actually canceled their appearance and were replaced by Bola Sete for the performance. Whimsical Imagery: The central artwork features a surreal version of Winnie the Pooh and Piglet. In a subtle counter-cultural touch by the artists, Pooh is depicted carrying a "kilo" of drugs while Piglet is blowing smoke as they walk into the sunset. Political Context: The concert was a benefit for Phil Drath, an anti-war write-in candidate running for the 1st Congressional District in opposition to President Lyndon B. Johnson’s Vietnam policy. Collector Significance: Cataloged as AOR-2.325 in The Art of Rock, original first printings are highly prized by collectors and can command prices over $2,500.
