Submarine Voyage

Submarine Voyage - After (Poster) Original silkscreen Disneyland Attraction poster vintage attraction poster for the Submarine Voyage ride in Disneyland's Tomorrowland. The original poster was designed by Disney Imagineer Sam McKim and released in 1959 to advertise the new attraction. Attraction Details Location: The attraction was located in the Tomorrowland section of Disneyland in Anaheim, California. Original Run: The Submarine Voyage first opened on June 14, 1959, and operated until it closed on September 8, 1998, due to high operating costs. Theme and Inspiration: The ride was inspired by the 1958 voyage of the first nuclear-powered submarine, the USS Nautilus, to the North Pole. The ride vehicles were initially painted military grey and named after actual US Navy nuclear submarines. Mermaids: For a period from 1959 to 1967, live female cast members dressed as mermaids could be seen sunbathing on rocks and swimming in the lagoon, a popular, yet challenging, feature of the attraction. Current Status: The attraction was re-themed and reopened in June 2007 as the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage, based on the Pixar film Finding Nemo.
