Rainbow Caverns

Rainbow Caverns - Before (Poster) Disneyland Attraction silkscreen, previously mounted and poorly restored vintage Disneyland attraction poster for the former Rainbow Caverns Mine Train ride in Frontierland. The original attraction poster dates back to 1956. The Attraction Name: It originally opened as the Rainbow Caverns Mine Train in July 1956. It was later expanded and renamed the Mine Train Through Nature's Wonderland in 1960. Description: The ride took guests on a narrow gauge railroad journey through a wilderness area. The highlight was the interior of the Rainbow Caverns, which featured waterfalls and pools illuminated with different colors, creating a "spectacular" effect with "22 magnificent waterfalls and geysers" as the poster text suggests. Location & Legacy: The attraction was located in the area of Frontierland now occupied by the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad roller coaster, which opened in 1979. A scene within Big Thunder Mountain Railroad that features colored, flowing water is a direct homage to the original Rainbow Caverns attraction.
