Disneyland attraction poster for the former Rainbow Caverns Mine Train ride in Frontierland. The original attraction poster dates back to 1956.
The Attraction
Name: It originally opened as the Rainbow Caverns Mine Train in July 1956. It was later expanded and renamed the Mine Train Through Nature's Wonderland in 1960.
Description: The ride took guests on a narrow gauge railroad journey through a wilderness area. The highlight was the interior of the Rainbow Caverns, which featured waterfalls and pools illuminated with different colors, creating a "spectacular" effect with "22 magnificent waterfalls and geysers" as the poster text suggests.
Location & Legacy: The attraction was located in the area of Frontierland now occupied by the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad roller coaster, which opened in 1979. A scene within Big Thunder Mountain Railroad that features colored, flowing water is a direct homage to the original Rainbow Caverns attraction. |
