British Quad Movie Poster, Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger
is a 1977 fantasy adventure film directed by Sam Wanamaker with stop-motion animation by special effects artist Ray Harryhausen. The film is the third and final installment in Harryhausen's Sinbad trilogy, following The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958) and The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (1973).
The plot centers on Sinbad, played by Patrick Wayne, who is trying to help a prince named Kassim who has been transformed into a baboon by his evil stepmother, the witch Zenobia. Zenobia, portrayed by Margaret Whiting, wants her own son to be crowned Caliph instead of Kassim. To break the curse, Sinbad, along with Princess Farah (Jane Seymour) and others, embarks on a perilous journey to a mythical land called Hyperborea. On their quest, they face various creatures brought to life by Harryhausen's stop-motion effects, including a minotaur, a giant walrus, a troglodyte, and the titular saber-toothed tiger. The film was released in May 1977.
The film's special effects, while praised for their stop-motion animation, were released in the same year as Star Wars, which made the visual style seem dated to some. The film's cast also includes Taryn Power and Patrick Troughton. |
