Albumen print, This is a photograph of the 6th Vermont Infantry Regiment
during the American Civil War. The regiment was organized at Montpelier, Vermont, and mustered into service on October 15, 1861. It was part of the Vermont Brigade and served in the Eastern Theater, primarily with the VI Corps of the Army of the Potomac, from October 1861 to June 1865, The 6th Vermont Infantry Regiment was one of the "300 fighting regiments" of the Civil War. It lost 11 officers and 191 enlisted men killed or mortally wounded, and 3 officers and 212 enlisted men died from disease during its service. The regiment was mustered out of service on June 26, 1865. |
