Divine Comedy 3

After Fine art by Salvador Dali, Beatrice Resolves Dante's Doubts by Salvador Dalí is a woodcut print from his illustrated series for Dante Alighieri's epic poem, The Divine Comedy. The artwork depicts Beatrice, who in the poem guides the character Dante through Paradise and helps him overcome his doubts. This specific print is identified as "Paradise Canto 4". The series was originally commissioned by the Italian government in the 1950s to celebrate the 700th anniversary of Dante's birth, but the commission was withdrawn due to public opposition to a non-Italian artist being chosen for the project. Dalí, however, continued with the work, and the illustrations were eventually published as a suite of 100 wood engravings between 1960 and 1964 with the help of a French publisher. The number "34/150" indicates that this is a limited edition print, specifically the 34th print out of a total edition of 150. Salvador Dalí's signature is also visible at the bottom of the work.
