The poster depicts a member of the Pontifical Swiss Guard playing a drum, with Rome's iconic Colosseum and St. Peter's Basilica in the background. The use of bold colors and a stylized, abstract approach is characteristic of Klein's work during the "Jet Age" of the 1950s and 1960s. This particular poster won the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) travel poster contest in 1961 and is part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. |
