Giants Causeway

Mounted One sheet, This is a vintage travel poster for the Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland, created for the London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) . The artwork, titled "Ireland for Holidays - The Giant's Causeway," was created by the artist Norman Wilkinson (1878-1971). The poster dates to the period between 1923 and 1947 and was used to promote tourism to the area. The Giant's Causeway is a UNESCO World Heritage Site consisting of over 40,000 interlocking basalt columns. The formation is a result of volcanic activity that occurred approximately 60 million years ago. The site is also famous for the legend of the giant Fionn mac Cumhaill (Finn McCool) who is said to have built the causeway to fight a rival giant in Scotland.
