40 x 50, Royal Quad, The Palace of Holyroodhouse
is the official residence of the British monarch in Scotland and is located at the end of the Royal Mile in Edinburgh. The palace was originally founded as a monastery in 1128 by King David I and has since been the principal royal residence in Scotland since the 16th century.
The image shows a vintage travel poster for the palace, which was likely created to promote train travel to the area. The palace has been the setting for many significant historical events, including its association with Mary, Queen of Scots, who lived there from 1561 to 1567. The poster also features Arthur's Seat in the background, an ancient volcano and prominent landmark in Holyrood Park.
The palace and its grounds are open to the public year-round, except when members of the royal family are in residence.
