Fine art by Sister Mary Corrita Kent, Silkscreen, A Man You Can Lean On
is a 1966 pop art screenprint by artist and educator Corita Kent, also known as Sister Mary Corita Kent. It is identified in the artist's archive as 66-12. The serigraph, or screenprint, was published as an offset print poster by United Church Press in 1968.
Kent's work frequently incorporated text from various sources, including advertising, scripture, and pop song lyrics, to convey messages about religion, politics, and social issues. In "A Man You Can Lean On," she combined a slogan from a Klopman Mills ad with the title of Pete Seeger's song "Turn, Turn, Turn," whose lyrics are derived from the biblical book of Ecclesiastes. The composition also features the word "turn" repeated and mirrored in the background. |
