Suburbia

Mounted One Sheet, Suburbia is a 1983 American coming-of-age drama film directed by Penelope Spheeris and produced by Roger Corman. The film, also known as Rebel Streets and The Wild Side, follows a group of suburban youths who run away from home and form a punk-rock gang called "The Rejected" by squatting in abandoned houses in Los Angeles. The film is noted for its authentic portrayal of the early 1980s punk scene, featuring real-life punks in its cast and live footage of punk bands such as D.I., T.S.O.L., and The Vandals. The film also features Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers in one of his earliest acting roles. The plot revolves around the gang's struggles with neglectful families and a hostile society, including a vigilante group of suburbanites who target them. The film's cast includes Bill Coyne as Evan, Chris Pedersen as Jack Diddley, and Jennifer Clay as Sheila. The movie was made with a budget of approximately $500,000 and was inspired by stories and incidents Spheeris encountered while making her documentary, The Decline of Western Civilization. A different film titled SubUrbia was released in 1996, directed by Richard Linklater.
