Halfsheet Ludwig Hohlwein, This image is an advertisement for
Leibniz-Keks, a German brand of butter biscuits produced by the Bahlsen company. The poster, titled "Leibniz-Keks (Schützengraben)" or "Leibniz-Keks (Trench)," was created around 1914 by the German poster artist Ludwig Hohlwein.
The artwork depicts German soldiers in a snowy trench during World War I, with a box of the biscuits featured prominently in the foreground. The poster was part of a larger advertising campaign that included postcards and other materials aimed at associating the popular biscuits with the German military and patriotism during the war. The company also created advertisements featuring biscuits on the belts of German pilots around 1915. |
