Houdini

Progress Window Card, Houdini is a 1953 biographical film about the life of the famous illusionist and escape artist Harry Houdini. The film stars Tony Curtis as Houdini and Janet Leigh as his wife, Bess. At the time of filming, Curtis and Leigh were married in real life. The movie, produced by Paramount Pictures, is a Technicolor film that, while entertaining, is a highly fictionalized account of Houdini's life and takes several liberties with the facts. The film's storyline follows Houdini's rise to international fame, his love for his wife, his quest to expose fraudulent mediums after his mother's death, and his most dangerous stunts. The film was directed by George Marshall and the screenplay was written by Philip Yordan, based on the book Houdini by Harold Kellock. The cast also includes Torin Thatcher, Angela Clarke, and Stefan Schnabel. Tony Curtis, an amateur magician himself, performed many of his own tricks in the movie.
