Halfsheet demount, SS Duilio
vintage travel poster for the Italian ocean liner, SS Duilio. The text on the poster mentions "21 Julio" (21st of July) and a route that includes "ESPAÑA-MARSELLA-ITALIA" (Spain-Marseille-Italy), with stops in "GENOVA, NAPOLES Y PALERMO" (Genoa, Naples, and Palermo).
The SS Duilio was an Italian ocean liner and one of the largest Italian merchant ships until 1925. She was the sister ship of the SS Giulio Cesare. Built for the Italian shipping company "Navigazione Generale Italiana," the Duilio was laid down in 1914 but not completed until 1923, making her maiden voyage from Naples to New York City. The ship was later used on the Genoa to Buenos Aires route and the Genoa to Cape Town route.
During World War II, the SS Duilio was sunk by Allied aircraft in 1944 while laid up in the port of Trieste, and her wreckage was scrapped in 1948. |
