after Window Card, Pay Day is a 1922 American silent film written, directed by, and starring Charlie Chaplin. It was Chaplin's last two-reel short film. The movie was distributed by First National Pictures. Plot Summary The film follows Chaplin as a laborer who works on a construction site. He attempts to keep some of his paycheck from his "virago wife," who wants all of his money. He manages to escape to a bar with his friends, but after getting drunk and trying to catch a streetcar home, he arrives at 5 a.m. to face his angry wife.
