Small, The Patriot

Plot Summary
Set in South Carolina in 1776, the film follows Benjamin Martin (Mel Gibson), a veteran of the French and Indian War who is a widower with seven children. When his eldest son, Gabriel (Heath Ledger), joins the Continental Army to fight in the American Revolutionary War, Benjamin initially abstains from fighting. However, after a cruel British officer, Colonel William Tavington (Jason Isaacs), murders one of his sons and arrests Gabriel, Benjamin is driven to lead a colonial militia in a guerrilla war against the British army to protect his family and seek revenge. The film's plot is loosely based on a composite of several historical figures, including Francis Marion, Daniel Morgan, and Thomas Sumter. |
