The Long, Long Trailer
is a 1954 American romantic comedy film starring Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. The film was directed by Vincente Minnelli and is based on the 1951 novel of the same name by Clinton Twiss.
The movie follows newlyweds Nicholas "Nicky" Collini (Arnaz) and Tacy Bolton-Collini (Ball) as they embark on a cross-country honeymoon in a brand-new, oversized travel trailer. The humor in the film comes from a series of mishaps and disasters they experience on the road, including a difficult attempt to drive the trailer up a treacherous mountain road. The characters of Tacy and Nicky are similar to the beloved characters of Lucy and Ricky Ricardo that Ball and Arnaz portrayed on their hit television show, I Love Lucy. The film was a commercial success, making it one of the highest-grossing comedies of 1954. |
