Fine art etching by Pablo Picasso, This is a print by Pablo Picasso titled
Cinesias et Myrrhine, which is part of the Lysistrata suite from 1934. The suite is a series of illustrations by Picasso for a new edition of the ancient Greek play Lysistrata by Aristophanes.
The print depicts a man, Cinesias, and his wife, Myrrhine, who is one of the women withholding sex from their husbands in an attempt to end the Peloponnesian War. The image shows Myrrhine teasing her husband, Cinesias, who is in a state of desperation. The print you have appears to be a later edition or a facsimile. The original edition of the Lysistrata suite was a signed edition of 150, with an additional unsigned book edition of 1500.
The signature and numbering "10/25" on the print indicate that it is the tenth print in a limited edition of twenty-five. |
