Geneva

Mounted One Sheet Fly Swissair Jets Walter Mahrer's vintage travel poster for Geneva Intercontinental Airport depicts a stylized scene promoting Swissair flights. The poster, created in 1948 or 1949, was made to commemorate the opening of a new, longer concrete runway that allowed for the first transatlantic flights to land in Geneva. The image features an airplane taking off from a runway with a view of Lake Geneva, the Jet d'Eau fountain, and the Alps in the background. The poster's design is considered an example of the mid-century modern style, characterized by its bold perspective, clean geometric lines, and a pastel color palette. A later version of the poster, from around 1958, was created by Mahrer to reflect the arrival of four-engine jet aircraft, which had not yet landed in Switzerland when the original poster was made. Original posters are considered highly sought-after collector's items.
