One sheet,
Singapore - American President Lines
is a vintage travel poster created by artist J. Clift around 1958. The poster was part of a series commissioned by the American President Lines (APL) to promote travel by ship to its various port locations.
The artwork depicts a person in a traditional boat called a "twakow" with a view of a modern ocean liner in the background, combining a traditional local scene with the contemporary mode of travel offered by APL. APL's history dates back to the Pacific Mail Steamship Company in 1848, and the name "American President Lines" was adopted in 1938 when the company emerged from bankruptcy. The company's growth continued for decades, and today it is a subsidiary of the CMA CGM Group. |
