The full quote from Roosevelt is "I say that this can be done; it must be done; and it will be done," which he said in a fireside chat about providing more aid to Britain. The poster was created by the U.S. Government Printing Office in 1942.
During World War II, war bonds were a way for Americans on the home front to contribute financially to the war effort. The public could purchase a $25 war bond for $18.75, which could be redeemed 10 years later for the full $25. By the end of the war, 85 million Americans had purchased over $185 billion worth of war bonds.
This poster is an example of the numerous propaganda campaigns used during the war to unite the American people toward a common cause. |
