Wanda Landowska

After Halfsheet, Wanda Landowska was a Polish harpsichordist and pianist known for her significant role in reviving the popularity of the harpsichord in the early 20th century. She was a pioneer in the historically informed performance movement and the first person to record Johann Sebastian Bach's Goldberg Variations on the harpsichord in 1933. The poster in the image advertises her in connection with the record label La Voix de son MaƮtre, which is French for "His Master's Voice". This was the French division of the His Master's Voice (HMV) record company. The poster shows Landowska playing a harpsichord, the instrument she championed throughout her career. Her recordings for this label were made in Europe before and at the beginning of World War II.
