After Picket Sign, strike poster from the Air Transport Employees Local Lodge 1781 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW) against United Air Lines. The poster's message, "THE WILD BLUE YONDER! We made it FRIENDLY, SAFE, COMFORTABLE and PROFITABLE FOR EVERYONE BUT US!", suggests a labor dispute over compensation and working conditions . The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW) has a long history of representing workers in the air transport industry. Local Lodge 1781 , based in San Francisco, has been involved in contract negotiations and labor actions with United Airlines on multiple occasions. Historically, the local lodge ratified a groundbreaking agreement with United in 1946 that established the 40-hour work week for employees. More recently, the union has been in negotiations with United regarding issues such as wages, job security, and outsourcing. The union has also been involved in disputes over other issues, such as safety and work rules.
