It is a compilation of narratives, some assembled by Mary from her husband's field notes, and recounts their adventures in the African wilderness. The book includes black-and-white photos and line illustrations by A. A. Jansson. Lions, Gorillas and Their Neighbors Published in 1932, this book was also co-authored by Carl and Mary L. Jobe Akeley. It features photographs by the authors and illustrations by A. A. Jansson. After Carl's death, Mary L. Jobe Akeley signed the book for some editions. Congo Eden Written by Mary L. Jobe Akeley, this book was published in 1950. It is described as a comprehensive portrayal of the historical and scientific aspects of game sanctuaries in the Belgian Congo. The book recounts her six-month pilgrimage through the region in 1947. The title "Eden" was part of her campaign to challenge public perception of Africa as a "dark" or "hellish" continent.
