International Overseas Exhibition

After One sheet, This poster is an advertisement for the International Overseas Exhibition, also known as the Colonial Exhibition, held in Paris, France, in 1931. The exhibition ran for six months, from May to November, and was intended to display the cultures and resources of France's colonial possessions and promote the country's "civilizing mission". The slogan "Round the World in One Day" is prominently featured on the poster. The poster was created by the French artist Victor Jean Desmeures. The exhibition was a significant event, with an estimated attendance of seven to nine million visitors from around the world. Other nations, including the Netherlands, Italy, Japan, the UK, and the US, also participated. The event included grandly scaled reproductions of native architectural styles and featured people from the colonies who demonstrated their arts, crafts, music, and cooking. The poster depicts four figures from different cultures—a Chinese man, an Arabic man, an African man, and a man from Southeast Asia—along with a French flag flying from a building in the background.
