Quad, The Mercenaries
is the UK title for the 1968 British adventure war film Dark of the Sun. The film stars Rod Taylor, Yvette Mimieux, and Jim Brown.
The story is based on the 1965 novel The Dark of the Sun by Wilbur Smith. It follows a band of mercenaries led by Captain Curry on a dangerous mission during the Congo Crisis to rescue civilians and retrieve $50 million in diamonds. The film was directed by Jack Cardiff and was notable for its graphic violence, which was considered shocking for its time. Quentin Tarantino is an admirer of the film and used part of its score in his movie Inglourious Basterds.
