One Sheet, 007, Goldfinger is a 1964 spy film and the third installment in the James Bond series, starring Sean Connery as the fictional MI6 agent James Bond. Directed by Guy Hamilton, the film is based on the 1959 novel of the same name by Ian Fleming.
The film's plot centers on Bond investigating the gold magnate Auric Goldfinger, who plans to contaminate the United States Bullion Depository at Fort Knox with a "dirty bomb" to render the gold worthless, thus increasing the value of his own gold reserve and causing an economic crisis in the West.
The movie is considered a classic and a blueprint for many future Bond films, introducing iconic elements such as a pre-title action sequence unrelated to the main plot, extensive use of gadgets from Q, and a charismatic villain with a lethal henchman. It was also the first Bond film to win an Academy Award, for Best Sound Effects Editing |
