Superman themed standee, Childrens Underwear, Underroos
is a brand of children's underwear that became a cultural phenomenon in the late 1970s. Produced by Fruit of the Loom, Underoos packages included a matching top and bottom for boys and girls that featured popular characters, primarily from superhero comics, animated programs, and science fiction. The designs were created to mimic the costumes of characters like Superman, Wonder Woman, and Luke Skywalker, which allowed children to imagine they were their favorite heroes. The brand's slogan, as seen in the image, was "Underwear that's Fun to Wear!".
The idea for Underoos was conceived by entrepreneur Larry Weiss in 1977. After being rejected by Hanes and the Scott Paper company, Weiss partnered with Fruit of the Loom, which purchased the brand and launched it in 1978. The brand's popularity has led to its mention in pop culture, including a reference in the movie Captain America: Civil War. In recent years, the brand has been licensed to Bioworld and has also produced adult sizes. |
