The poster was created in 1967 for a concert at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco featuring The Steve Miller Blues Band, The Peanut Butter Conspiracy, and Lee Michaels. Moscoso's work is known for its vibrant use of optical color vibrations, a hallmark of 1960s counterculture art. The poster is also identified by the inventory number Family Dog #FD-47.
The "Sphinx Dance" poster is held in the collections of several museums, including the Denver Art Museum and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). |
