Matrix

Matrix Concert Poster from 1967. The poster, titled "The Only Alternative and His Other Possibilities at Matrix," was created by artist Victor Moscoso as part of his Neon Rose series. It advertises a concert at The Matrix nightclub in San Francisco, which took place from February 17–19, 1967. The design is based on a photograph of the band "The Only Alternative" by Fred Roth. The use of clashing, high-contrast colors is a key characteristic of Moscoso's style, which was intended to create an optical or "psychedelic" effect for viewers. Moscoso was one of the "Big Five" psychedelic poster artists from San Francisco during this era and was the first to create his own series, Neon Rose. His posters are considered significant pieces of the psychedelic poster era. The poster is identified as Neon Rose #7 (NR-7) in the series.
