About British European Airways (BEA)
BEA was a British airline that operated from 1946 until 1974.
It was formed as a state-owned airline to manage domestic and European routes, including flights to the British Isles and continental Europe.
The airline operated flights to major British cities such as London, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Belfast, as well as to destinations in Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East.
BEA was the largest UK domestic airline operator. Its extensive route network in Scotland included flights to the Highlands and Islands, such as the Hebrides, Orkney, and Shetland.
On April 1, 1974, BEA merged with British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) and other airlines to form British Airways. |
