Iceland Airways

Mounted One sheet a vintage travel poster for Flugfélag Íslands, also known as Iceland Airways. The artwork, created by Danish artist Kai Rich, was issued in 1955 to promote the airline. The poster depicts a picturesque Icelandic countryside scene with a small village and a church at the foot of snow-capped mountains. In the foreground, Icelandic horses are shown near a shoreline, and farmers are harvesting grass. About the airline Flugfélag Íslands was originally founded in 1937 as Flugfélag Akureyrar. It moved its headquarters to Reykjavík and changed its name to Flugfélag Íslands in 1940, and adopted the international trade name Icelandair. In 1973, it merged with another Icelandic airline, Loftleiðir, to form a new holding company called Flugleiðir. This company later assumed the international trade name Icelandair.
