One sheet previously mounted, The Pilgrim
is a 1923 American silent film starring, written, and directed by Charlie Chaplin. It is a comedy about an escaped convict (played by Chaplin) who steals a clergyman's clothes and is mistaken for the new pastor of a small rural Texas town.
The film also stars Edna Purviance as the female lead, and was the last film in which she co-starred with Chaplin. It was Chaplin's last film for First National Pictures before he moved to United Artists. In a re-edited version released in 1959, Chaplin composed a score for the film that included the song "Bound for Texas". |
