David Bowie Signed LP cover
David Bowie's album The Man Who Sold the World. The artwork is a cartoon drawing by artist Mike Weller. This version of the album cover is different from the more famous U.K. release, which featured Bowie in a dress.
About the Album Cover
Artist: The cartoon was created by Bowie's friend, Mike Weller.
Artwork Details: The drawing depicts a cowboy figure in front of what is believed to be Cane Hill asylum, a hospital where Bowie's half-brother was receiving treatment. The empty speech bubble on the cover was originally intended to contain a phrase that Mercury Records found too risqué, so it was left blank.
Different Versions: The Man Who Sold the World is notable for having multiple original covers. The U.S. version, as seen in the image, was released in November 1970. The U.K. release in April 1971 featured Bowie in a dress. A later worldwide reissue by RCA Records used a black-and-white photo of Bowie as Ziggy Stardust. |
