Concept: Originally envisioned as a walk-through wax museum, the concept was changed to a boat ride using the new Audio-Animatronics technology after the success of "It's a Small World" at the 1964 New York World's Fair. Experience: Guests board boats at "Laffite's Landing" and float through scenes depicting the Golden Age of Piracy, including a skeletal grotto, a battle between a ship and a fort, and a town being pillaged. The Song: The iconic theme song, "Yo Ho (A Pirate's Life for Me)", was written by Imagineers George Bruns and Xavier Atencio. Film Inspiration: The immense popularity of the ride later inspired the blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean film series, which in turn led to the incorporation of film characters like Captain Jack Sparrow and Captain Barbossa into the attraction itself starting in 2006.
