Italian Cathedral

Italian Cathedral copper or steel engraving, of the Duomo di Siena (Siena Cathedral) in Italy. The original artwork appears to date from the mid-19th century, with similar prints attributed to artists like Attilio Zuccagni-Orlandini around 1845. Description of the Cathedral Location: The cathedral is located in the Piazza del Duomo, Siena, in the Tuscany region of Italy. Architecture: It is a significant example of medieval Italian Romanesque and Gothic architecture. Construction: The main structure was largely completed between 1215 and 1263, on the site of an earlier building. The project was intended to be even larger, but expansion plans were halted by the Black Death in 1348, leaving visible unfinished walls (the Facciatone). Materials and Colors: The exterior and interior feature striking alternating stripes of white and greenish-black marble, which are the symbolic colors of Siena. Key Features: Noteworthy elements include the ornate facade partly designed by Giovanni Pisano, a dome topped with a lantern by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, and an intricate inlaid marble mosaic floor, considered one of the most magnificent in the world.
