Peterson-Berger directed the outdoor performances of his opera on Frösön himself from 1935 to 1939. Historical Significance The opera has become a symbol for the Jämtland province and is still performed regularly at the same location on the island of Frösön. The first performances in 1935 were highly successful, leading to the festival becoming a permanent institution.
