Plot Summary
The plot centers around Dr. Sigmund Walters, a mad scientist obsessed with glandular research, who believes he can transform a female gorilla named Cheela into a human woman. He steals the intelligent ape from a circus and uses glandular extracts from a human patient and the brain tissue of his nurse to perform a radical transplant operation.
The experiment is a success, creating the beautiful, but mute, Paula Dupree. Paula is taken back to the circus where she demonstrates an uncanny, hypnotic ability to control the wild animals and joins the lion tamer's act. However, she falls in love with the animal trainer, Fred Mason, and her intense jealousy over his fiancée causes her to revert to her primal ape form, leading to a thrilling and tragic climax. |
