The Green Slime

Mounted Belgian movie poster for the 1968 science-fiction film The Green Slime . The French title prominently displayed is Bataille au-delà des Étoiles (Battle Beyond the Stars), while the Dutch text at the bottom reads Oorlog in het Heelal (War in the Universe). Film Overview Title: The Green Slime (Original US title); Gamma 3: The Great Space War (Original Japanese title) Release Year: 1968 (Japan/US) Director: Kinji Fukasaku, who would later be known for the film Battle Royale Starring: Robert Horton, Luciana Paluzzi, and Richard Jaeckel Genre: Science fiction, horror, B-movie cult classic Plot: Astronauts returning from a mission to destroy an asteroid accidentally bring back a glowing green substance to their space station, Gamma 3. The substance mutates into one-eyed, tentacled monsters that feed on electricity and multiply rapidly when shot. Production Details The film was a joint American, Japanese, and Italian production, shot in Japan at Toei Studios with an Asian crew and non-Japanese actors. The unique, rocking theme song for the US release was composed by Charles Fox, known for the themes to Happy Days and Wonder Woman. The "monsters" were actually played by Japanese children in rubber suits. The movie has gained a cult following due to its campiness and is often cited as an unintentional influence on later sci-fi horror films like Alien.
