Fine art historic print titled
"A S.W. View of the college in Providence, together with the President's House & Gardens". It depicts what is now known as University Hall at Brown University, along with the former President's House.
The main building in the image was originally called the College Edifice and was the sole building for the institution for its first fifty years, serving as a chapel, library, classrooms, dorms, and offices. It was likely designed by Joseph Brown, a member of the prominent Brown family.
This specific engraving is a famous early view of the campus, created by artist and Brown University alumnus David Leonard, class of 1792. The building was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1939. |
