The Old Little Belt Bridge
The bridge depicted is officially known as the Old Little Belt Bridge
(Den gamle Lillebæltsbro) to distinguish it from the newer suspension bridge built in 1970.
Construction: The bridge was built between 1929 and 1935 and was the first permanent road and rail link between the Danish mainland (Jutland) and the island of Funen, significantly reducing travel times.
Function: It is a combined road and railway truss bridge. While it lost its primary function for major car traffic in 1970, it remains the only railway bridge connecting Jutland and Funen and is still used by local car, pedestrian, and cycle traffic |
